Here, a chest has a chance to appear on a hill right above the word "Mihan" on the map. The Eastern Mihan Hillsides are direct to the right of the Western Mihan Hillsides. A chest has a chance to appear just south of the entrance to this Lair. The Western Mihan Hillsides lie along the north edge of the map and are home to the Lair Zommoros. West from the Court of the Dead, you will have a chance to find a chest near a group of rocks near a tree on the overlook. If the skritt chest is present, it will be on a platform across the Gorge from the vista. To get here, start from the Destiny's Gorge Waypoint and head east up the cliff. This chest will spawn on a cliff on the eastern side of Destiny's Gorge. The chest has a chance to appear slightly northeast of the hero point. ![]() These ceremonies are an instrumental component of every earth-based culture that honours the sacredness of life and choses to live in harmony with the universal laws that govern everything. Without this appropriate transition, the mother’s nurturingand protection can suffocate the child as he/she attempts to evolve naturally. This is especially for the mother who must let go of her role as the caretaker. ![]() the mother and father), so they can let go without being disruptive or obstructive to the change that is also occurring within them. This process also aids those who are intimately connected to the individual, (e.g. It also aids the collective (community) in embracing the changes taking place for the person that they are connected to because when something within that which we are a part of changes, it affects every other part. For example, when a child comes into adolescence initiation is a process whereby they must relinquish their childhood and all the associated childish ways if living – including their childish attitudes, behaviors and thought patterns – in order to prepare them for their transition into young adulthood and taking their place within the community in a more vital capacity. The deliberate and intentional manner that this ceremony is performed in has a profound impact on the subconscious – sending a clear message to the individual to prepare for a transition. This process prepares the individual to move through changes in their life with more awareness and the resources to handle the changes gracefully. That's perhaps why Sylvia Sleigh's works are sometimes seen as shocking – even today. These ‘rites of passage’ ceremonies (otherwise referred to as ‘initiation rituals’) are valuable tools for anyone who wants to consciously move into the beginning of a new phase of their life, and hence, mark the end of the previous chapter. Student works by women on Art UK through the twentieth century show that even when they painted from life, the male models were often modestly covered. However, having a woman artist creating a male nude has been something of a rarity, especially depicting any hint of genitalia. There are also works with clear homoerotic undertones in many male artists' works, from Michelangelo to Henry Scott Tuke. Male nudity in art had long been accepted as heroic and is found all the way back to ancient Greece. Perhaps some kind of brief would have been useful. However, the trustees of the School did not appreciate the display of male genitalia and would not allow it to be placed above the School's entrance unless Kennington added a loincloth.Īs one would hope from an artist with integrity, he refused to censor or change his vision and so the work was placed above the entrance of the library where it remains today. ![]() Kelly was one of the foremost portrait artists of his time, and yet even his standing could not prevent a public backlash when this painting went on display in Newport Museum and Art Gallery in 1947.Įric Henri Kennington (1888–1960) London School of Hygiene & Tropical MedicineĪs you can see, the panel depicts a mother and child being protected from a fanged serpent by a nude, bearded, knife-wielding father. The next nude on our list is by the firmly establishment figure of Sir Gerald Festus Kelly. But here's a quick look at some of the other works in the UK that have a salacious or saucy history. ![]() There are private works not originally intended to be shown to the public, such as Goya's La Maya desnuda (The Naked Maja) and Courbet's L'Origine du monde (The Origin of the World) – both are now in major museums (the Prado and Musee D'Orsay respectively). There are famous examples that caused a stir in public such as Manet's Olympia and the 1917 exhibition of Modigliani's works that was closed, supposedly due to the depiction of pubic hair. Artistic nudes have had a complicated history, tied up with the male gaze, the public perception of what was 'decent' at different times in history, religion, and plenty of other factors. Surely the Preston nude can't be the only one that caused some controversy at the time. There is no specific reaction recorded to this particular painting, but it set me wondering if this had been a common occurrence in galleries throughout the land. George Spencer Watson (1869–1934) Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum Sbooster makes a kit to adapt the D2 for use with its BOTW P&P ECO 12-13V MKII power supply, and has step by step instructions, but of course this will involve disassembling the D2 and some internal reconfiguration, which is perhaps not consistent with the D2's ease of installation (or hardware guarantee!). Again, this isn't unknown with players like this, but it confirms my suspicion that UPnP isn't quite as universal as some would have us believe.īy the way, for those who bridle at the thought of a switchmode PSU in an audio product, it's possible to use a third-party kit to attach an external linear supply, such as the Sbooster sold in the UK by Signature Audio Systems. It also seemed somewhat ill at ease with the Asset UPnP software on my server, and worked much better with the MinimServer package I run as an alternative. I suspect it's only a one-time set-up condition but, even after that, when I could start playing some music, it was still spinning and adding albums. If, like me, you have a huge stored music collection then you may find the D2 chugs away indexing all the music on your server before it is ready to play, showing 'Analyzing' and a spinning wheel. They don't cost anything but time.I know about saving shipping weight and trees and all that, but there are times when a comprehensive manual wouldn't go amiss, for the D2 may be simple on one level, but so much of what it does is hidden away in menus some users may never find. ![]() The price was right at free, however the complexity in just getting things setup was absurd on Windows 7, and so when my work machine was updated to Windows 10 I kissed Foobar2k goodbye, probably forever although I am at least curious about their somewhat newer macOS and Linux versions. The only one of these programs that just drove me crazy was Foobar2k (hence I never recommend it) and I prevailed there too but not without many hours of fighting it, too damn many. With JRiver, you get a little closer to Roon-like because there is a pretty good GUI, but the Id Pi version I have running on Raspberry Pi cost me $39, another absolute no-brainer in terms of what you are actually getting for that cost, even if their support is rude and lacking, at that price I'll figure out software myself (and I did). Other than their famously rude and annoying non-support via their forum, I've been nothing shy of thrilled with JRiver, and there are some very helpful people on their forum, if not JRiver themselves. I could have stuck with AssetUPnP that entire time too, but after about 2 years I bought a JRiver Master License so that I could run the same program on my Mac and Linux machines at home, as well on Windows at work, where I require the GUI and only use it as a desktop client and not a server. You absolutely can't go wrong at those kinds of prices, even if you'll not get a Roon-like UI or overall experience, but at that spend it doesn't really matter, these programs can at least buy time even if someday a move to Roon is in the cards.įor me personally, it's bought 6 or so years, when I made the switch from iTunes and AirPlay as my server/streamer arrangement. I personally paid $10 for Asset, on some special offer as a previous buyer of dBPoweramp. The same developer offers dBPoweramp, another good program. ![]() That would not be Roon, nor Audirvana either.Īsset, Minim, and JRiver all fit that bill, and are in very wide use on the Raspberry Pi hardware, though certainly many years ago that might not have been the case when you made the move to Roon.Īsset is $37 and you get 5 licenses for that, any and all Windows, macOS, Linux (including Raspberry Pi) machines can run it, and it does work well. Really I just use the JRemote control point app to browse and play music from the server, or for that matter BubbleUPnP and mconnect also both work very well with JRiver as server, while adding Qobuz (or TIDAL) access to the picture.īut the OP's thread topic/question here was quite specific, it's asking which DLNA/UPnP media server is recommended for hi-rez and specifically DSD compatibility, and can run on a NAS or Raspberry Pi. I didn't really have gripes with Asset, it ran just fine for me as a headless server, but in the end I decided to go with the Raspberry Pi version of JRiver and it offers the choice of headless or GUI, I opt for the GUI even though typically barely ever look at it. Click to expand. Both MinimServer and AssetUPnP have supported DSD for a very long time now, though in the case of Asset only the paid or "Premium" version. ![]() Tap on any visible page to go back to your Home screen.Tap on the checkmark of a page to hide it. Now we are left with the inferior Widgets of Win11 - clunky, slow, web-based implementations that I disable as soon as I setup any Win11 system. ![]() An elegant, no-frills presentation of weather information for the next five days. Just click the start button, glance at the relevant group of tiles on a resizable Start canvas and move on. Without taking up any permanent real estate on your desktop. These are really well-done Live Tiles, that feed you truly useful information and updates in a blazing fast, smooth, convenient interface. There are probably many more high-quality examples. Reference examples of excellent Live Tiles implementation are myTube, Newsflow, Reddplanet (when it was actively developed), and built-in apps like Mail and Calendar, Weather, Photos, MS Money, etc. If they build them out and put them where people can access them, while keeping a clean UI.In my experience, I still think Live Tiles are a superior implementation of Widgets - if done right. MBY said:Eh, after seeing Android widgets, Live Tiles are clearly inferior. Live Tiles were really efficient that it has negligible impact on system performance, even you pin heaps on Start screen/menu. Also should also hibernate when let's say running full screen games. It needs to remember its position on each state. Like when docked and unlocked on laptop and tablets. I hope that Widget grid on desktop is smart even when resolution and monitor changes. Yes, there is Edge Sidebar, but not really the same since that's only for MS and its only meant for Edge users, and frankly not a great UX anyways. Similar to Vista Sidebar Gadgets which is on the right. Though for those who wants always on Widgets, Microsoft should also make current Widgets panel docked to the left screen. Windows have dedicated Show Desktop button on the Taskbar to replicate that. The experience will be basically like on Android, iOS and kinda like Windows Mobile of old when minimising apps/returning to home screen. On multi-monintors, user can dedicate all widgets on 2nd monitors if not used for windowed apps. On desktop with huge monitors or multi monitors, this more useful since on big screen, it's not always practical to have everything maximized. Having Widgets on desktop makes it always available as long as nothing covered on them. It is only available in Taskbar and oddly on App List only. Ideally I want it on Start menu, but clearly Microsoft is still allergic to this, they haven't even reimplemented Jump List in Start menu which is a Windows 7 feature. But this is promising and hopefully it is pretty solid on first launch and will continue to improved (not abandoned like many features and ideads). I hope this isn't a half baked implementation that Microsoft tends to do. ![]() Local zoo officials then gave her a lethal injection'. 'After a chase through the city, police cornered the animal and shot her 86 or 87 times until she sank to the ground, still alive and moving. The price of freedom from the circus was steep. ![]() Finally, she fell, very slowly, onto her side. The shooting went on for several more seconds. She was on her knees and could not right herself. She rocked her head violently from side to side. She slowly fell over, then awkwardly stood back up. The police were called out and started shooting at Tyke with rifles. She charged at bystanders and smashed cars as she made her way through several city blocks. She was disoriented and no idea where she was. Circus staff tried to beat her back, but no bullhook or whip could stop the rage that had been building inside her for two decades. At some point during the show, she veered from the script. At an afternoon performance at the Neal Blaidsell Center in Honolulu, it all came to a head. She could no longer take the pain and the confinement. She was tired of being beaten, whipped, and kicked. She had been in the circus nearly 20 years. In August of 1994 Tyke reached a breaking point. She vacillated between terror and boredom. 'For the next year she performed in the circus and lived in a barren concrete barn, chained, between shows. Captive Animals Protection Society (CAPS) believe there can be little mystery as to what motivated her to escape'. 'Tyke’s final day was preceded by four days confined on a ship traveling to yet another performance, 21 years of captivity, a humiliating life of performing, being beaten, chained and denied the simple act of behaving like an elephant. Even when the handler walked by the elephant after this, the elephant screamed and veered away, demonstrating fear from his presence.”' 86 times.ĭocumentation on Tyke first surfaced in 1988: “The elephant handler was observed beating the single-tusk African elephant in public to the point the elephant was screaming and bending down on three legs to avoid being hit. As the terrified elephant made a desperate run for freedom down a Hawaii street, police opened fire. The promoter attempted to corral her, and he too was wounded. At a Circus International performance in Honolulu, Tyke turned on her trainer (who was described as a “punishment-type”), killing him, before seriously injuring her groomer. These acts were, in the parlance of human psychology, cries for help. 'Tyke was a professional working-elephant who attempted her first escape from circus prison in April 1993, and a second three months later. Eventually police arrive and begin shooting, firing 87 bullets into the massive creature until it collapses dead onto a car, bleeding profusely'. Enraged and disoriented, Tyke then storms out of the arena and tears through the city streets as people flee in terror. ![]() , when Tyke's trainer attempts to intervene, the 9,500 pound animal wearing a silly pink hat crushes him, killing him instantly. 'Tyke was captured as a baby in Mozambique in 1973 and shipped to the United States, where she became the property of the Hawthorn Corporation, which specializes in supplying wild animals to circuses. And on the final day of her life she exhibted real elephant behaviour and it didn't fit the streets of Hawaii". then North Dakota, and then finally in Hawaii, she acted like a real elephant. "That's was the first natural thing thatTyke did in her life, and that was to run. "She knew she had to get out, and she would to get away from it all. |
